In astrology, 2027 starts slowly under Mars retrograde and builds toward two big summer moments, Jupiter's move into Virgo in late July and a total solar eclipse in Leo on August 2. Along the way Chiron settles into Taurus on April 14 and Jupiter trines Saturn in April and July. The eclipse season opens with an annular eclipse in Aquarius on February 6.

January 10 to April 1: Mars Retrograde in Virgo and Leo
Mars turns retrograde on January 10, 2027 at 10°26′ Virgo and turns direct on April 1 at 20°56′ Leo, about eleven and a half weeks later.
Mars retrograde often slows the push forward just long enough to ask what all that effort was for.
Mars is one of the classical planets and describes drive and the will to act. It goes retrograde roughly every two years. This time it starts in Virgo and slips back into Leo on February 21. Counting the shadow, the stretch of sky Mars crosses three times, the cycle runs from November 5, 2026 to June 7 or 8, 2027.
In Virgo the review tends to land on work and daily routines. Plans that ran on pressure can stall until they are rebuilt with more care. Back in Leo from late February, the focus often moves to pride and creative risk. An old ambition may come back for a second try.
If you have planets or the Ascendant between 21° Leo and 10° Virgo, you'll probably notice it more, since Mars crosses that stretch three times. With Leo or Virgo rising, Mars often spends part of this retrograde in your first house. That often shows in energy levels and in how quickly you react.
February 6 and August 2: The Eclipses in Aquarius and Leo
Two solar eclipses mark 2027, an annular one on February 6 at 17°38′ Aquarius and a total one on August 2 at 9°55′ Leo, with the lunar nodes on that axis all year.
Eclipses on the Leo-Aquarius axis tend to rebalance the pull between being seen as yourself and belonging to something larger.
The nodes moved into Aquarius and Leo in July 2026 and stay there until March 2028. Eclipses tend to speed things up. A change you were half ready for can arrive with a date attached. Aquarius covers friendships and the future you picture. Leo covers what you create and the part of you that wants to be seen. The August eclipse falls near the South Node in Leo. It often asks what you're ready to let go of in those Leo matters.
On August 2 totality crosses a narrow strip of southern Spain, around parts of Cádiz and Málaga, then Gibraltar and North Africa from Morocco to Egypt before reaching the Arabian Peninsula and Somalia. The longest totality, 6 minutes 23 seconds, falls about 60 km (37 miles) southeast of Luxor. Spain gets its second total solar eclipse in under a year, after the one of August 12, 2026. A third, annular one follows over southwest Spain on January 26, 2028.
The three lunar eclipses are penumbral and the Moon only dims slightly. The first falls on February 20 or 21 at 2°06′ Virgo. July 18 brings one at 25°49′ Capricorn. The last comes on August 17 at 24°12′ Aquarius.
The February eclipse usually lands hardest on charts with planets or the Ascendant near 17° Aquarius or Leo. For August the sensitive degree sits around 10° of the same two signs.
April 3 and July 11: Jupiter Trine Saturn
Jupiter in Leo forms an exact trine to Saturn in Aries on April 3, 2027 at 17°08′, the second of three passes that run from August 2026 to July 2027.
Under Jupiter trine Saturn, plans that are already under way usually find that growth and stability pull in the same direction.
Jupiter and Saturn are the two slowest planets the ancient astrologers could see. Their shared cycle lasts about twenty years and restarted with their conjunction at 0°29′ Aquarius on December 21, 2020. The trine is one of the easier points in that cycle. The last pass arrives on July 11 or 12, 2027 at 27°10′. With both planets in fire signs, the support tends to go toward courage and initiative.
The aspect works like a tailwind for what is already moving. A business that has found its footing may grow without losing its shape. Someone who took on a new responsibility after Saturn entered Aries in 2025 may start to see it pay off.
Planets or an Ascendant between about 13° and 27° of Aries, Leo or Sagittarius are the ones this trine is most likely to touch.
April 14: Chiron Enters Taurus Until 2034
On April 14, 2027 Chiron crosses into 0° Taurus for the long stay, about seven years, broken only by a few months in Gemini in 2033.
With Chiron in Taurus, old questions of worth often move into the body and the bank account, where they can finally be looked at plainly.
Chiron was discovered in November 1977 and belongs to modern astrology. It was moving through Taurus when it was found. Its return to that sign closes a loop of about fifty years. From April 2027 it moves forward to 4°40′ Taurus and turns retrograde there on August 7 or 8. It turns direct on January 9 or 10, 2028 at 0°01′ without going back to Aries.
Taurus is the sign of what you own and what you can rely on, along with the senses and the steady pace of the body. Under Chiron these areas tend to show where an old feeling of not having enough still lives. That can surface around money or around rest. For some it shows up as a habit of earning love through usefulness.
Most people born between 1977 and 1983 have Chiron in Taurus and meet their Chiron return over these years, usually around fifty. The exact timing depends on your natal degree. If your natal Chiron sits in the first five degrees of Taurus, as it does for many people born between May 1976 and April 1978, the first exact passes fall in 2027 or 2028.
July 25 or 26: Jupiter Enters Virgo
Jupiter enters Virgo at 04:49 UT on July 26, 2027 (still July 25 in the central and western US) and stays in the sign until August 2028.
Jupiter in Virgo looks for its luck in the details, in work done well and in the habit that pays off slowly.
Jupiter spent a year in Leo from June 30, 2026, with a retrograde between December 12 or 13 and April 12 or 13. Leo favored visibility. Virgo moves the growth toward skill and service, often through the daily structure of work. In traditional astrology Virgo is Jupiter's detriment, a sign where it works less comfortably. Its usual generosity has to turn practical, which can make it less flashy and more useful.
The first test comes on September 10, when Jupiter squares Uranus at 9°57′ Virgo and Gemini. Sudden openings around work or study are typical of this square. So are restless plans that need checking before they go further.
Planets in the first degrees of Virgo feel Jupiter's arrival first. Anything near 10° of Virgo or Gemini sits in the path of the September square.
What Stays in Place All Year
Behind the five shifts, the slow planets stay in their signs for the whole of 2027. Saturn and Neptune met at 0°45′ Aries on February 20, 2026, a meeting that comes round about every 36 years. In 2027 they start to pull apart. Saturn remains in Aries, retrograde from August 9 at 27°53′ to December 23 or 24 at 21°01′.
Neptune is in Aries too, retrograde from July 9 or 10 at 6°40′ to December 15 at 3°51′. Uranus stays in Gemini, turning direct on February 8 at 1°41′ and retrograde on September 15 at 9°57′. Pluto stays in Aquarius, retrograde from May 8 at 7°11′ to October 17 or 18 at 4°45′.
Measured as the true node, the North Node stays in Aquarius from July 27, 2026 to March 26, 2028, with the South Node in Leo. Pluto meets the North Node on November 15 or 16 at 4°57′ Aquarius. Astrologers tend to read that contact as a collective turning point around shared power.
The three outer planets also form a cluster of harmonious aspects, sextiles and a trine, most of them exact around June. Uranus sextiles Neptune on January 15 and June 6. Uranus trines Pluto on June 15. Neptune sextiles Pluto on June 28 or 29 and again on October 16.
Mercury goes retrograde three times in 2027.
- February 9 to March 3, in Pisces and Aquarius
- June 10 to July 4, in Cancer and Gemini
- October 7 to 28, in Scorpio and Libra
Venus is the exception. It doesn't go retrograde at all in 2027. Its last retrograde ends on November 13 or 14, 2026 and the next one starts on May 10 or 11, 2028, in Gemini.
How to Read 2027 in Your Own Chart
Each of these shifts falls in a different part of every chart. The house it lands in says more about your year than your Sun sign does. Start with the house where Taurus falls, since Chiron spends the next seven years there. Then find the two houses on the Leo-Aquarius axis, where the eclipses work all year. Last, look for the house that holds Virgo, which Jupiter enters in late July.
Mars retrograde touches the end of Leo and the start of Virgo, often the same houses again. Placing the houses needs a birth time. The free Sun, Moon and Rising Sign Calculator works out your Ascendant from it. For Chiron, the Chiron calculator gives your exact natal degree.
Questions
What will happen in 2027 according to astrology?
Astrology reads 2027 as a year that opens with review and builds toward growth with a solid base. Mars is retrograde from January 10 to April 1, which tends to slow plans while they get checked. Support arrives with Jupiter trine Saturn on April 3 and July 11 or 12. The total eclipse of August 2 in Leo marks the peak of the eclipse season. None of this fixes events in advance. It describes the climate you'll be making choices in.
What are the eclipses in 2027?
There are five eclipses in 2027, two solar and three lunar. The annular solar eclipse of February 6 falls at 17°38′ Aquarius. The total solar eclipse of August 2 falls at 9°55′ Leo. The lunar eclipses are all penumbral and faint. The first comes on February 20 or 21 in Virgo. The other two fall on July 18 in Capricorn and on August 17 in Aquarius. Astrologers usually give the solar pair more weight, since the three lunar ones are penumbral and barely visible.
When does Chiron enter Taurus?
Chiron enters Taurus to stay on April 14, 2027. It had a first brief stay in the sign from June to September 2026 before slipping back into Aries. It then stays until May 2034, apart from a few months in Gemini in 2033. Chiron was in Taurus when it was discovered in 1977. This is its first return to the sign since it became part of astrology. Most people born between 1977 and 1983 have Chiron in Taurus and reach their Chiron return during these years.
When is Mars retrograde in 2027?
Mars is retrograde from January 10 to April 1, 2027. It turns retrograde at 10°26′ Virgo and moves back into Leo on February 21. It turns direct at 20°56′ Leo on April 1, about eleven and a half weeks after the start. Counting the shadow, the whole cycle runs from November 5, 2026 to June 7 or 8, 2027. During these weeks effort tends to work better when it goes into repair and finishing. Pushing hard against a plan that has stalled often costs more than it returns.
When does Jupiter enter Virgo in 2027?
Jupiter enters Virgo at 04:49 UT on July 26, 2027. In New York that is 00:49 on the 26th, while in Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles it is still the evening of July 25. It arrives after a year in Leo that began on June 30, 2026 and stays in Virgo until August 24, 2028. Its first strong contact there is a square to Uranus on September 10. Virgo is traditionally a sign where Jupiter works less comfortably, so its growth usually comes through skill, routine and careful work rather than through display.
Is there a Venus retrograde in 2027?
No. Venus turns direct on November 13 or 14, 2026 and doesn't station retrograde again until May 10 or 11, 2028, in Gemini, so all of 2027 runs without a Venus retrograde. Of the three planets nearest to Earth, Mercury, Venus and Mars, Venus is the only one that doesn't go retrograde this year. Mercury goes retrograde three times in 2027 and Mars once, from January 10 to April 1. For love and money that means fewer built-in pauses. If something there needs a second look, the decision to review it is yours.
Is 2027 a good year astrologically?
Astrology doesn't sort years into good and bad. Each one opens some doors and asks for something in return. In 2027 the openings come mostly through Jupiter trine Saturn and Jupiter's move into Virgo, which tend to reward patient work. What the year asks for is review in the first months under Mars retrograde. Later it asks for attention to worth and security as Chiron settles into Taurus. How all this feels depends on where these planets fall in your chart. The same eclipse can bring a new job for one person and a quiet ending for another.
