North Node in Aquarius points your growth toward groups and toward ideas that outlast any single person. Its partner, the South Node in Leo, holds what tends to come easily, which is warmth and the wish to be seen for who you are. The axis asks you to put that warmth to work for something shared.
The North Node is in Aquarius from late July 2026 to March 26, 2028, so this axis is also active in the sky for everyone.
What the lunar nodes are
The lunar nodes are the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the path of the Sun. Eclipses happen near them, which is why astrologers have watched them since antiquity. Tradition called them the Head and Tail of the Dragon, Caput and Cauda Draconis. In Indian astrology they are Rahu and Ketu.
The North Node and the South Node always sit in opposite signs. Reading them as a line of personal growth is modern. It took shape in the twentieth century and spread from the 1970s, helped by Martin Schulman's 1975 book on the nodes.
If you don't know where your North Node is, you can find it in your birth chart.
South Node in Leo
The South Node in Leo describes familiar ground. You may know how to light up a room or how to pour your heart into something with your name on it. Being noticed can feel natural. That ease served you. It gave you a sense of self solid enough to stand on. Under pressure it is also where you tend to go back.
It shows up in different ways. Some people look for the center of attention openly and feel lost without it. Others stay quietly proud and wait to be recognized. Some guard a creative gift so closely that it never leaves the house.
The South Node is not a flaw to fix. It is a set of skills that can turn into a hiding place if it is all you use.
North Node in Aquarius
The North Node in Aquarius asks you to step a little out of the spotlight and into the circle. Growth tends to come through belonging to something wider than yourself, such as a team or a cause you care about.
It often feels uncomfortable at first. Aquarius values fairness over favor, so in a group you may be treated like everyone else. For someone used to being special that can sting.
In daily life it can look like a project where the credit is shared or a friendship where you are a peer instead of the star. With money it may mean pooling resources for something collective. In terms of career, this North Node tends to grow in work that serves more people than yourself, where your talent is one part of a larger effort.
Living with the Leo-Aquarius axis
You don't leave the South Node behind. The Leo warmth that once went toward being admired can go toward making a group feel alive. The confidence it gave you is what lets you speak up for others.
North Node in Aquarius by house
The sign describes how this growth happens. The house shows where it plays out, with the South Node in Leo always in the opposite house. Aquarius is often compared to the 11th house as an analogy, though a sign and a house are not the same. A reliable birth time tells you which one is yours.
North Node in Aquarius in the 1st House
Growth happens in how you present yourself. You may be learning to show your odd, independent side instead of the version that wins approval in close relationships. With the South Node in Leo in the 7th house, you may shine mostly through someone else's admiration. The task is to be recognizable on your own terms.
North Node in Aquarius in the 2nd House
Money and self-worth are where this axis plays out. You may grow by earning in a way that feels original to you. The South Node in Leo in the 8th house can tie your worth to shared resources or to very intense bonds. Building something steady of your own tends to help.
North Node in Aquarius in the 3rd House
Growth comes through everyday conversation and the people around you. Local networks can matter more than you expect. The South Node in Leo in the 9th house may pull you toward speaking as the one who already knows. Asking questions as an equal often teaches you more.
North Node in Aquarius in the 4th House
Home and private life are where this North Node works. Some people build a household that looks unusual from the outside. Others find home in a chosen family of friends. The South Node in Leo in the 10th house can make a public title feel like the whole of you. Giving private life more weight balances it.
North Node in Aquarius in the 5th House
Creative play and romance become the ground for growth, approached in a more experimental way. You may enjoy making things with others or for them. The South Node in Leo in the 11th house can make you the star of every group you join. The work is to enjoy expressing yourself without needing applause.
North Node in Aquarius in the 6th House
Daily work and routines carry this axis. Growth may come through teamwork and through practical habits that look after your body. The South Node in Leo in the 12th house can hide a private wish to be seen. Showing up for ordinary tasks alongside others tends to bring that wish into the open.
North Node in Aquarius in the 7th House
Partnerships are where this North Node grows. You may be learning to treat a partner or a collaborator as an equal and a friend. The South Node in Leo in the 1st house makes it feel natural to lead and to be the center. Sharing that center often changes the bond.
North Node in Aquarius in the 8th House
Growth happens through what you share with others, whether money or trust. It can mean letting close bonds breathe and accepting help without losing your freedom. The South Node in Leo in the 2nd house may tie your pride to what is yours alone. Clear agreements about what you hold in common tend to open things up.
North Node in Aquarius in the 9th House
Study and travel become the field of growth, especially ideas that reach beyond your own circle. The South Node in Leo in the 3rd house can make you the bright talker who always has an answer ready. Staying curious about views far from yours tends to widen things.
North Node in Aquarius in the 10th House
Career and public life carry this axis. Your path may grow through work that serves a community, where the role matters more than the spotlight. The South Node in Leo in the 4th house can make home the place where you feel most admired. Taking on a public role for the sake of others tends to stretch you.
North Node in Aquarius in the 11th House
Friendships and shared goals sit at the center of growth here. You may grow by finding your people and working with them toward something that matters to all of you. The South Node in Leo in the 5th house can make romance or creative applause your main source of joy. Letting friendship carry part of that weight often feels lighter.
North Node in Aquarius in the 12th House
Growth turns inward. Solitude and quiet forms of service can matter more than anything visible. Some people find it in a spiritual practice and some in helping without taking credit. The South Node in Leo in the 6th house can make you proud of doing everything well. Letting some of your work go unseen tends to free you.
North Node in Aquarius 2026 to 2028
The North Node entered Aquarius on July 26, 2026 in the Americas (July 27 in Europe) and stays until March 26, 2028. While it is here, collective questions tend to come forward for everyone. The South Node in Leo can make personal fame feel less satisfying than it used to.
If you were born with the North Node in Aquarius, you are living your nodal return at some point between 2026 and 2028, depending on the degree in your chart. If your natal North Node is in Leo, you are living a nodal reversal, with the North Node crossing your natal South Node.
Eclipses on the Leo-Aquarius axis often mark the moments when this transit becomes easier to notice:
- August 12, 2026: solar eclipse at 20°02′ Leo
- February 6, 2027: annular solar eclipse at 17°38′ Aquarius
- August 2, 2027: total solar eclipse at 9°55′ Leo
- August 17, 2027: penumbral lunar eclipse at 24°12′ Aquarius
In mid-November 2027 the North Node meets Pluto at 4°57′ Aquarius, which for some people coincides with a change in the groups they belong to. I write more about the August 2026 eclipse in Leo and about astrology in 2027 elsewhere on the site.
Everything above is the shared pattern of this axis. What makes it yours is the house and the planets that touch your nodes, which is what I work through in a full birth chart reading. For the basics, the course lesson on Chiron, the nodes and Lilith covers them.
Common questions
What does North Node in Aquarius mean?
It describes a direction of growth toward groups and toward ideas that serve more than one person. The opposite point, the South Node in Leo, holds the ease of being seen and admired. The axis asks you to bring that warmth into shared projects.
What does South Node in Leo mean?
It describes what comes naturally to you, often warmth and a talent for being noticed. It served you well and it still can. Under stress it may turn into needing recognition before you act. Read on its own it is a starting point more than a verdict.
Is North Node in Aquarius a good placement?
No placement is good or bad by itself. North Node in Aquarius can feel awkward early on because the familiar Leo habits feel warmer than the group. Over the years many people find a kind of freedom in the collective side that the spotlight never gave them.
How long will the North Node be in Aquarius?
The North Node entered Aquarius on July 26 or 27, 2026, depending on the time zone. It stays until March 26, 2028, about twenty months. After that it comes back to Aquarius from April 18, 2045 to October 18, 2046.
When was the North Node last in Aquarius?
Before 2026 the North Node was in Aquarius from December 2007 to August 2009. The nodes complete a full circle in about 18.6 years, so each sign comes around roughly every two decades. Your birth chart shows where your own North Node sits.
What is a nodal return?
A nodal return happens when the transiting North Node comes back to the place it held when you were born. It arrives around ages 18 to 19, 37 and 55 to 56, with small differences between people. Halfway between them, around 9, 28 and 46 to 47, comes the nodal reversal.
When does the North Node conjunct Pluto in Aquarius?
The exact meeting falls on November 16, 2027 at 4°57′ Aquarius, still the evening of November 15 on the US West Coast. Pluto moves slowly, so the theme lasts longer than one day. For some people it coincides with a deep change in the groups they belong to. For others it passes quietly.
