The shape of the week
Most of what you feel on Monday was set in motion before it. Mars opposed Pluto on the 3rd and the Sun opposed Saturn on the 4th. An aspect keeps working for days after it perfects. Through these seven days both stay close enough to keep the air taut, with that feeling of having pushed against something that refused to move. Mercury keeps squaring Mars all week and squares Pluto until around the 8th. Conversations hold their edge a while longer.
Underneath that leftover tension something softer starts to move. Venus turned retrograde in Scorpio on the 3rd and spends the coming weeks walking back over ground she has already covered. Venus retrograde tends to bring old attachments back into view along with questions about money and what you actually value. The answers rarely arrive fast.
The New Moon in Libra and Venus square Mars
On Saturday the 10th the Moon catches up with the Sun at 17°22' Libra. A New Moon is the dark point of the month, when things get planted before anything shows above ground. Libra belongs to Venus. Whatever this New Moon starts leans heavily on how she is doing. On that same Saturday she is retrograde in Scorpio and in an exact square with Mars in Leo.
Since ancient astrology Venus and Mars have described desire between them. Venus speaks of what draws you in and Mars of how you go after it. In a square each pulls its own way. You may want closeness and end up picking a fight. It can also go the other way, when you chase something hard and halfway there start doubting you wanted it at all. With Venus retrograde the wanting is under review while Mars in Leo wants to act now and be seen doing it.
That tends to make this a quieter beginning than most New Moons. Intentions set now hold up better if they leave room to be corrected, because Venus has weeks of review still ahead of her. Something you begin in a relationship or in the way you handle money can start small and be adjusted as it goes.
The days around it
Wednesday the 7th carries two contacts at once. Mercury meets retrograde Venus in Scorpio, a conjunction that suits the conversation you have been putting off. Talk about feelings comes out more precise than expected and sometimes more personal. The same day Mars sextiles Uranus in Gemini and gives a short burst of nerve. It helps with changing a plan on the spot or saying yes to something you did not see coming.
On Friday the 9th Mercury forms a quincunx with Saturn. It is an awkward angle between what you think and what turns out to be practical. A plan needs a small adjustment before it fits a real limit. It passes quickly.
In the background Mars is still trine Neptune in Aries, which takes some of the roughness out of the week's force and lends it imagination. Mars is also moving toward a trine with Saturn that perfects on the 16th. Effort you put in now tends to hold.
Where it falls for your rising sign
I count the houses by whole signs, one sign per house from your Ascendant. It is the only method that stays accurate for everybody in a general article. In your own chart under Placidus, which is the system I use in readings, a transit can land in the neighbouring house.
Aries rising. The New Moon lands in your house 7. Whatever starts this month starts with someone else, a partner or a person you deal with one to one. Venus retrograde in your house 8 brings back an old question about what you share and what you owe. Mars, your ruler, is in your house 5 and squares her on the 10th. Part of you wants fun and attention while the relationship asks you to slow down. Saturn in your house 1 keeps you serious about the people you commit to.
Taurus rising. Venus rules your chart and she spends the whole week retrograde in your house 7. Partnerships go under review and someone from the past may reappear. The New Moon in your house 6 is a good point to reset a routine or pick up a health habit that slipped. Mars in your house 4 squares Venus on the 10th. Tension at home can leak into the relationship. Uranus in your house 2 keeps money a little unpredictable.
Gemini rising. The New Moon in your house 5 opens a month for creative work and romance, for whatever you do purely because you enjoy it. Mercury, your ruler, joins Venus in your house 6 on the 7th and work conversations turn more personal than usual. That day Mars in your house 3 sextiles Uranus in your house 1. It tends to bring a quick idea you want to act on at once. Watch your tone around the 10th, when Mars squares Venus from that same house 3.
Cancer rising. This New Moon sits in your house 4, the base of the chart. It favours starting something at home or with family, even something as plain as reorganising a room. Venus retrograde moves through your house 5 and often brings an old love or a half-finished creative project back to mind. Mars in your house 2 squares her on the 10th and sets spending against pleasure. Saturn in your house 10 still asks for a steady face at work while the Sun opposes it from home.
Leo rising. Mars and Jupiter are both in your house 1. You have energy to spare this week and you want to use it. The one place to slow down is the square from Venus retrograde in your house 4 on the 10th, when a family matter or the question of where you feel at home pulls against your plans. The New Moon in your house 3 suits starting a course or a conversation you lead yourself. Mars trine Saturn and Neptune in your house 9 gives what you do a longer horizon.
Virgo rising. The New Moon in your house 2 opens a new cycle for money and for your sense of your own worth. A small concrete change to how you earn or spend tends to stick. Mercury, your ruler, joins Venus in your house 3 on the 7th and your words come out warmer than usual. Mars in your house 12 works out of sight. Some of the week's irritation may have no obvious cause. The 10th is a better day for rest than for having it out with anyone.
Libra rising. The New Moon falls in your house 1. Of all the New Moons in your year this is the one most about you. Venus, your ruler, is retrograde in your house 2 and asks you to revise what you value and what you charge for your time. Mars in your house 11 squares her on the 10th. A friend or a group may push you to commit sooner than you want to. The Sun opposite Saturn across your house 1 and house 7 has been testing a partnership all week.
Scorpio rising. Venus retrograde and Mercury meet in your house 1 on the 7th. People notice you more and you may be rethinking how you come across. Mars, your traditional ruler, sits in your house 10 and squares Venus on the 10th, setting ambition against how you want to be treated. Pluto, your modern ruler, is in your house 4 still carrying the echo of its opposition with Mars. The New Moon in your house 12 is quiet. It favours rest and closing one thing before you begin the next.
Sagittarius rising. Jupiter, your ruler, travels with Mars through your house 9 and plans for study or travel feel within reach. Venus retrograde in your house 12 works more privately. Something you have kept to yourself, often a feeling, asks to be looked at alone. The New Moon in your house 11 suits starting something with friends or with a group. Mars trine Saturn in your house 5 rewards steady work on a creative project.
Capricorn rising. The New Moon in your house 10 marks a fresh start in work or in how people see you. Saturn, your ruler, sits in your house 4 opposite the Sun. Home and career have been pulling against each other since the 4th. Venus retrograde in your house 11 brings back an old friend or a group you drifted away from. Mars in your house 8 squares her on the 10th. Shared money can get touchy.
Aquarius rising. Mars in your house 7 has just opposed Pluto in your house 1. Someone close has been testing your will and the echo runs into this week. Venus retrograde and Mercury in your house 10 bring a work matter back for a second look. The New Moon in your house 9 favours starting a new subject or planning a trip. Uranus, your modern ruler, receives a sextile from Mars on the 7th that tends to help you break a stalemate.
Pisces rising. Mars in your house 6 trines Neptune, your modern ruler, in your house 2. Work runs more smoothly than it has in weeks. Venus retrograde in your house 9 revisits a belief or a plan to travel. The New Moon in your house 8 suits a new arrangement about shared money or a quiet decision about intimacy. Saturn in your house 2 keeps asking you to be realistic about what things cost.
